The Residential Leadership Community works with other organizations every semester to sponsor and

co-sponsor events for students within the RLC, as well as students outside of the organization.

New Student Fall Retreat

Every fall semester the incoming freshmen of the RLC have the opportunity to build community and relationships during their first weekend at Virginia Tech. The RLC staff organizes a series of events that includes a ropes course and a general introduction to the Residential Leadership Community, as well as to the university. They also have the opportunity to meet and interact with the students returning to the RLC for the second year program. This interaction provides the students with a general understanding of what is to come during their first semester at Virginia Tech and within the RLC.

Second Year Student Spring Retreat

The spring semester marks the end of the first year experience for the RLC and the beginning of the preparations for the year to come. Once the Student Teaching Assistants and Second Year students for the following year are selected they are invited to attend the Spring Retreat to prepare for the following semester. This event gives the second year students the opportunity to further their relationship with each other, as well as the RLC staff. The students work to help plan the first year retreat and understand their future roles in the RLC.

Appreciation Breakfast

At the end of the spring semester the RLC provides a breakfast for its second year students and faculty members to thank them for their efforts throughout the year. The RLC is grateful for the time and commmittment level of its students and staff. This event is a small way of thanking them for their contributions to the Residential Leadership Community.

Form and Function

This is an event that debuted in February 2007 and will be an annual event for many years to come. The RLC worked with other organizations, such as Pamplin College of Business and Student Activites to provide a leadership, skill development and training for all students campus wide. This is the perfect opportunity for students to develop and enhance the skills necessary to be an effective leader here on the Virginia Tech campus. This event provides students with a great experience to network among other campus leaders while building on their individual leadership skill sets to apply to their organizational and academic settings.

Fringe Festival

This festival provides an opportunity for the Residential Leadership Community to not only network, but serve the community outside of Virginia Tech. The Fringe Festival is a four day fine arts festival held in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. The students will travel to Roanoke on one of the days of the event and work with other community members to do many different tasks to facilitate the events of the festival.
